Sumner/Lake Tapps Reporter Announcement

5.4.07

The Reporter newspaper family will be growing again in June.

The Sumner/Lake Tapps Reporter will begin delivery to homes and businesses in and around those communities on Wednesday, June 6. A total of 8,100 copies will be distributed every Wednesday.

The Reporter newspaper group is operated by King County Publications Ltd. (KCP), a subsidiary of Sound Publishing, Inc.

“We are excited about launching a community newspaper in Sumner and Lake Tapps,” said Don Kendall, general manager of King County Publications. “Sumner and Lake Tapps have their own identity, but until now, they have not had their own newspaper.”

The focus of the Sumner/Lake Tapps Reporter will be on local news, sports and features.

Kendall said “There are dozens of options for people who want information about regional, national or international news.  But, only community newspapers inform people about what is happening on their street.”

Katrina Minton-Davis has been named general manager of the Sumner/Lake Tapps Reporter. Katrina has five years of newspaper experience and previously owned a business in Bonney Lake.

Shawn Skager will be the editor. Shawn has eight years of newspaper experience, including the past year with the Reporter group. He previously worked at community newspapers in Enumclaw and Puyallup.

While this will be KCP’s first publication in Pierce County, the company already publishes 10 community newspapers in King County.  The company recently announced that it had purchased the Kirkland Courier, which will become a weekly publication on May 23.

The other KCJ newspapers are published in Auburn, Maple Valley/Covington, Kent, Renton, Bellevue, Bothell/Kenmore, Redmond, Mercer Island, and Snoqualmie.

Sound Publishing also owns two papers in King County: the Federal Way Mirror and the Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber.
