Sequim Gazette readers are predominantly baby boomers with assets, discretionary wealth and plenty of time to shop.  Since there are virtually no department stores in Sequim, they shop frequently in Kitsap County to take advantage of a wide array of services, product selection and competitive prices. The community has long had a reputation as a retirement haven, but the past couple years have seen a rise in younger couples settling in the area. Sequim is located in the sun between the deep waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the breathtaking Olympic Mountains. The retirees are still moving here, and as a result the business community now includes several corporate chains and fast-food outlets. Sequim now boasts of the largest Safeway store in western Washington, and another large grocery store, QFC, recently opened its doors. The enthusiasm of the new residents has formed a perfect blend with the history and experience of the “oldtimers” to make Sequim an active and caring community iwth a friendly small-town flavor. Rural, but only a short distance from the culture of Seattle, the shopping of Silverdale, and the old-world flavor of Victoria, BC.
