NBK Housing cuts ribbon on new office

The Naval Base Kitsap Housing Services Center cut the ribbon on its new office at Bangor Plaza on Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) Bangor Feb. 8 after moving from its old office in bldg. 2901.
NBK Commanding Officer Capt. Mark Olson participated in the ribbon cutting, joined by key NBK Housing personnel.
“This facility has really become a one-stop shop,” said Olson. “It was a joint effort by everyone involved, including NBK and Navy Region Northwest.”
Convenience certainly plays a part in the new office. Olson described during the ceremony a young spouse freshly transferred to Naval Base Kitsap being able to visit NBK Housing for everything he or she needs to get a home prepared.
“We had convenience in mind while searching for a new office,” said Olson. “There’s a play place for children, a place to eat (Inside Out Café in Bangor Plaza), ample parking. Everything you need.”
A common complaint about NBK Housing’s former occupancy was the confusion that came along with the visit.
“Guests will be able now to differentiate between NBK Housing and Fleet & Family Services, whereas before they couldn’t,” said Mike Fagan, NBK Housing director. “It really is a huge improvement over the old office.”
“There is also an improvement in privacy,” said Fagan. “People sometimes come in with sensitive issues, and we are now better equipped to handle those situations.”
The ribbon cutting was followed up by coffee and cake provided by Naval Base Kitsap.
NBK Housing is open to all service members and government employees, single or married, and their families. For more information regarding housing on Naval Base Kitsap, please call 1-800-876-7022.
