‘Calling all Navy spouses!’
The Northwest Region Officer Spouse Organization (NROSO) is providing an informative and unique one-day workshop for all military spouses, officer and enlisted, on Tuesday, Feb. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the NAVSTA Everett Grand Vista Ballroom.
The workshop will cover everything from helping transition mobile military dependent students to throwing the perfect party. It’s also an opportunity to meet and socialize with other military spouses from NAS Whidbey Island, Na-val Base Kitsap and NAVSTA Everett, said NROSO Pres-ident Monique Mobley.
“NROSO is very excited to be sponsoring this one-day workshop open to all military spouses in the region,” said Mobley. “We’ve got three very interesting, dynamic and informative speakers to talk to spouses. Their topics include how to help children in transition with the military lifestyle adapt to moving to new schools and to new environments, proper flag etiquette, spouse’s benefits in the event something happens to their servicemember while they’re on active duty, as well as lots of fun information on how to plan your next party to be a success and have fun as the host or hostess.”
NROSO is an organization that serves all the spouses of the Northwest region. Its mission is to help support and provide additional education and social opportunities for the spouses of active duty officer, enlisted and retired servicemembers. The organization is actively working toward that end by providing regional spouses with very important information and support at the Feb. 8 workshop, said Melissa Worthey, NAVSTA Everett ombudsman assembly chairman, who urged all spouses to attend.
“It’s important for the spouses to realize that we are a country at war,” said Worthey. “Although we live in the continental United States where we have a lot of options outside the gate for support, our best support for our way of life and our needs is inside this gate. This workshop is a prime opportunity for these men and women to get together to know one another and to expand their support system outside their own family and friends.”
Both male and female spouses are encouraged to attend the event. The NAVSTA Everett Child Development Center (CDC) will provide free childcare during the workshop. The CDC requests that all children needing childcare should have up to date immunizations records on hand. Call the CDC at (425) 304-3778 for details.
The workshop will feature a continental breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. and a plentiful, full service lunch at noon. Also, plenty of door prizes will be given out to a number of lucky spouses. The workshop registration fee is $20, which will go towards food and prizes.
The deadline for workshop registration is Feb. 2. Forms and information about the one-day informational workshop can be found online at http://www.orgsites.com/ or by contacting OS2(SW) Mollie Keevert at (425) 304-3346.
“We look forward to meeting people there and to sharing the information that’s unique to our military lifestyle,” said Mobley. “I think it would be very unfortunate for any of our spouses to miss this great opportunity.”
