Matt Phelps has been promoted to Assistant Editor of the Bothell/Kenmore Reporter. Mr. Phelps will be replacing Andy Nystrom on Tuesday, September 4th and will continue to report to Carrie Rodriguez out of the Totem Lake office.

Matt Phelps began his career with Sound Publishing as the sports editor for the Whidbey News-Times in 2000 after graduating from the
University of Washington. Phelps quickly moved on in 2001 to take the sports editor position with the Mercer Island Reporter, where he stayed for eight years. While at Mercer Island, Phelps won two sports pages/section of the year awards from the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association, along with many writing and pagination awards from WNPA and the Society of Professional Journalists.

Phelps transitioned in 2009 to news reporting and moved over to the Kirkland Reporter where he has flourished. Phelps and editor Carrie Rodriguez won a first place SPJ award in government reporting in 2010 and two more first place SPJ awards in 2011 along with many WNPA awards.
