The Daily Herald is searching for a versatile deputy news editor to
help lead our award-winning newsroom.
We need an experienced journalist to help the local news editor with
day-to-day oversight of the print and digital news operation. That
includes assigning, scheduling and editing stories. The deputy editor
will foster a culture of investigative and enterprise reporting in our
growing newsroom.
We’re looking for a passionate and collaborative leader — someone
with strong news judgment and the ability to create and oversee
high-quality work. We want an editor who loves a good story and who
can help tell that story in new ways to our print and digital
audiences. The deputy editor will work one-on-one with reporters and
should be able to plan, oversee and execute a wide variety of content,
from breaking news to news features to longer-term projects.
As a general rule, we give reporters wide latitude to be creative and
write about things they believe are important. Likewise, we want to
play to your strengths, so some duties may depend on your skills and
interests.
The deputy editor also will be in charge of the newsroom when the
local news editor is away, including some weekend and evening editing
duties.
The Daily Herald with its website, HeraldNet.com, has been the leading
news and information source in Snohomish County, Washington, for more
than a century. We are in Everett, a vibrant and growing community 30
miles north of Seattle, framed by Puget Sound to the west and the
Cascade Range to the east.
This is a full-time position that includes excellent benefits:
medical, dental, life insurance, 401k with employer match, paid
vacation and sick days.
If this job sounds like a good opportunity and you’re looking to join a dynamic, growing newsroom in one of the most
beautiful parts of the United States, we’d love to hear from you. No calls, please. To apply, please send the following to
careers@soundpublishing.com and be sure to note ATTN: DeputyED in the subject line: (1) a resumé and cover letter outlining how you are a good fit for this position and your vision for it; (2) at least three professional references.
