GENERAL NEWS REPORTER (KENAI, AK)
The Peninsula Clarion (www.peninsulaclarion.com) is looking for a general assignment reporter to cover communities on Alaska’s central Kenai Peninsula, with a focus on the cities of Kenai and Soldotna and their surrounding areas. The ideal candidate will be interested in covering a diversity of community events and issues — everything from arts and public safety to fishing, oil and gas, and local government. Reporters will create daily copy for a five-day-a-week print and web publication and publish breaking news as needed. Beyond completing daily assigned stories, reporters are expected to develop leads and generate story ideas.

Roughly the size of West Virginia, the Kenai Peninsula is home to approximately 50,000 people spread across a number of small communities. The area includes access to the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, Chugach National Forest, Kachemak Bay State Park as well as numerous glaciers, rivers and lakes. World-class recreational opportunities include fishing, hiking, skiing and camping.
Minimum Qualifications: Must have a valid driver’s license and be properly insured. Candidates should also have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or requisite experience. Computer skills and working knowledge of AP style necessary. Basic knowledge of news photography preferred.
