Job Title: Production Coordinator – Layout

Location: Everett (Hybrid – remote after training)

About the Role

Are you a detail-driven designer with a passion for layout and typography? We’re looking for a Production Coordinator – Layout to bring newspapers and special projects to life. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with editors and creative teams to design engaging pages, keep production on schedule, and ensure every publication meets high standards of accuracy and visual appeal.

This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and wants to make a direct impact on the quality of local journalism. After an initial training period in our Everett office, this position offers the flexibility to work from home.

What You’ll Do

  • Design & Layout: Create visually compelling newspaper pages and special sections using InDesign.
  • Collaboration: Partner with editors to shape the look and feel of each publication, from sourcing images to refining headlines.
  • Quality Control: Proof, track, and finalize editorial pages and magazines, ensuring all files meet production and print specifications.
  • Project Management: Prioritize multiple deadlines, estimate ad percentages, and plan layouts for special projects.
  • Problem-Solving: Spot and correct errors, troubleshoot files, and follow established templates and style guidelines.

What We’re Looking For

  • Technical Skills:
    • High proficiency in Adobe InDesign
    • Experience with Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat preferred
    • Strong understanding of typography, typesetting, and design principles
  • Work Style:
    • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through
    • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Communication:
    • Strong command of the English language for copy editing and headline writing
    • Clear communicator with editors, team members, and remote offices

Work Environment

  • This is primarily a remote role after a short on-site training period.
  • Most of your day will be spent at a computer workstation.
  • Flexibility is key—hours may vary to meet deadlines, and occasional early mornings, late evenings, or weekend work may be required.

Expected hourly wage: $18 – $20 per hour.
