Newspaper REPORTERS – The Juneau Empire, Alaska’s award-winning capital daily, is looking for experienced, hard-hitting journalists to report on general and state news from the Alaska State Capitol in downtown Juneau.  As Alaska’s capital, Juneau sits at the forefront of state government, and covering the Legislature is one of our primary watchdog missions as a newspaper.

Our ideal candidates will possess strong analytical and investigative reporting skills, produce clean copy with a penchant for nailing down the details, and will be able to build and develop sources in a way that leads to unique articles. We want someone who can be the first to break news online, develop a day two story for print, but won’t drop the ball on investigative and enterprising projects along the way.

This Position Requires:

SKILLS

  • Experience using social media to report the news and promote your work is a must, and photography/videography skills are a desirable bonus.
  • Working comfortably and independently in team settings, strong proficiency in AP style and the ability to consistently meet the deadline are requirements for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or a related field with student paper, internship or other newswriting experience with clips of your work is required.
  • Preference will be given to qualified candidates in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

Work Schedule:

Typically, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm; however, hours and days will vary in order to accomplish the required tasks and may require coming in early, staying late, or working weekends on occasion. It is critical that the person in this position be both reliable and flexible.
