Sound Publishing Inc. is looking for a general assignment reporter with a minimum of 1-2 years of writing experience and photography skills to join our team! This position is based out of our Oak Harbor, WA office. The schedule may require evening and/or weekend work.
We are looking for a team player willing to get involved in the local community through the publication of the weekly newspaper and daily web journalism. He or she will have a commitment to community journalism and everything from short, brief-type stories about people and events to examining issues facing the community; be able to spot emerging issues and trends; write clean, balanced, and accurate stories that dig deeper than simple features; develop and institute readership initiatives.
Candidates must have excellent communication and organizational skills, and be able to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment. Must be proficient with AP style, layout, and design using Adobe InDesign; and use the publication’s website and online tools to gather information and reach the community. Must be organized and self-motivated, exceptional with the public, and have the ability to establish a rapport with the community.
